Police give warning following fake Evri parcel delivery text messages

CLICKING on a link in text message from someone pretending to be the parcel delivery giant Evri could see scammers steal your identity or money.

That’s the warning from Dorset Police who are encouraging Dorset residents to be more mindful of who they give their personal information out to.

These fraudulent messages typically state that your parcel could not be delivered due to various reasons, such as an unpaid fee or an incorrect address. The message then urges you to click on a link to resolve the issue.

Damian Cranny, Fraud Protect Officer at Dorset Police, said: “Stay vigilant and help protect yourself and others by sharing this information. Let’s keep our community safe from scams!”

How to spot the scam:

The link provided in the text message often leads to a fake website designed to look like the real EVRI site. This site will ask you to provide personal details or payment information, which the scammers can then use to steal your identity or money.

Some variations of this scam might ask you to activate something via SMS. Do not reply to these messages, as this could also lead to your personal information being compromised.

What to do:

If you receive a suspicious text, do not engage with it. Delete it immediately.

If you’re unsure about a delivery, go directly to the official EVRI website and use the tracking number you received at the time of purchase to check the status of your parcel.

You can report suspicious texts to your mobile network provider by forwarding the message at no charge to 7726

Additional advice:

Be cautious of texts with poor spelling or grammar, or that ask for unusual information.

Ensure your phone has up-to-date security software to help protect against these types of threats.

If it feels off, it probably is. Scammers often try to create a sense of urgency—don’t fall for it.
