FAMILIES across Dorset will benefit from better support services over the next three years thanks to a £2.3 million pot of government funding.
The investment will enable Dorset Council to develop its network of family hubs, making it easier to access vital help from pregnancy through to age 19 – or 25 for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Three new family hubs will open in Blandford, Portland Hospital and Weymouth Central in 2026.
Dorset’s eight hubs in Bridport, Dorchester, Ferndown, Swanage, Wareham, Littlemoor, Sturminster Newton and Wimborne will continue to deliver services, with expanded programmes for three to four-year-olds.
All hubs will be rebranded as Best Start Family Hubs, reflecting a focus on early years and connecting families with the right support.
The hubs provide a welcoming space for families to access health services, parenting support and community resources under one roof.
The funding will strengthen partnerships with health providers and voluntary organisations, ensuring families get the right help at the right time.
Dorset Council cabinet member for children’s services, education and skills Cllr Clare Sutton said: “This funding is a real boost for families and will make it easier for parents and carers to find the help they need, when they need it, all in one place and closer to home.
“By working together with health and community partners, we’re creating hubs that truly put children and families first and give children the best possible start in life.”
