Can you help get people in need to medical appointments?

CHARITABLE drivers are being urged to help get people to medical appointments.

Age Concern Wareham – Helping Hands, takes older residents of Wareham and the surrounding area to all types of medical appointments at doctors’ surgeries, hospitals, dentists and opticians.

The charity has been operating for around four decades, but needs more people to step up to help.

“In these days when finances for everyone are being stretched there are more and more people finding it very difficult when faced with getting to appointments,” said chair of the trustees, Alan Green.

“Taxis are prohibitively expensive for most people and bus services are just not practical for many older people.

“We do not charge a fare, we only ask for a donation from patients. This is such worthwhile work.

“The NHS can provide transport for disabled patients, so we only take patients who are able to get around independently sometimes with the aid of a walker.”

Anyone who could spare time to help the charity, if only half a day a week, will need two references and a DBS check.
