Scooter rider in his 70s seriously injured after crash on A351 in Upton

A SCOOTER rider in his 70s was seriously injured after a crash involving a car in Upton.

The man, from Wareham, was taken to hospital after the incident, near the Romany Works Business Park on the A351 Wareham Road, at around 11.50am yesterday morning (January 30).

The silver 600cc Honda scooter collided with a grey Ford Focus and the man was taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

His family has been made aware, Dorset Police said. The woman, in her 60s, driving the Ford was uninjured.

Road closures were put in place as the emergency services responded and the collision was investigated, re-opening at around 6.35pm.

Sergeant Mike Gatfield, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “Our investigation to establish the full circumstances of this incident is ongoing and I am keen to hear from any witnesses who have not already spoken to police.

“I would also urge anyone who was driving in the area and may have captured relevant dashcam footage to please make contact with us.

“Finally, I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures were in place. These were absolutely necessary to allow the emergency services to respond to the incident and for a detailed examination of the scene to be conducted.”
