AN event showcasing courses to help people develop new skills, start a new hobby or even training for a new career takes place tomorrow (July 31).

Learnfest takes place at Gather, on the ground floor of the Dolphin Centre in Poole, giving visitors the chance to get a free taste of some of the hundreds of adult education courses available from September with the Skills & Learning group.

At 10.30am, Beauty Therapies tutors will be giving a live demo exploring different eyelash lift techniques and passing on some practical skills.

A free Psychology taster session will run from 11.30am, examining the theme of Looking At and After our minds.

This will be followed at 12.30pm with English tutors hosting: A Dump or a Dream? The Art of Persuasive Writing, and at 1.30pm there will be an Arts & Crafts taster with the opportunity to make bookmarks.

Maths will be in the spotlight at 2.30pm with a Numbers and Nature taster session, and at 3.30pm there will be a chance to find out about studying English with 30 English words in 30 minutes.

The last taster session of the day will be Performing Arts: Introduction to Performance Skills, at 4.30pm.

Skills & Learning is Dorset and BCP Council’s joint adult education provider.

The non-profit organisation has 30 learning centres offering daytime and evening courses, across Dorset.

Financial help and even free courses are available, depending on learners’ personal circumstances.
