POLICE are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward following a fatal collision in Poole.
Dorset Police received a report at 2.12am this morning (Wednesday, January 7) that a man had been found unresponsive in Wimborne Road, near to the junction with Heath Avenue, in Oakdale.
It was reported that at around 2.06am the man had been involved in a collision with a vehicle, which had failed to stop at the scene.
Emergency services responded and very sadly the man – aged in his 20s – was pronounced dead at the scene.
His family has been informed and are being supported by officers.
Following extensive enquiries by officers, a 51-year-old man from Bournemouth has been arrested on suspicion of driving offences.
He remains in police custody at this time.
Inspector Joe Wheable of the roads policing team said: “Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the young man who sadly died at this extremely difficult time.
“We are carrying out a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances of this incident.
“I would urge any witnesses or anyone who may have captured any relevant dashcam footage, or witnessed anything suspicious in the area, to please contact us. I would also ask residents with home CCTV systems in the vicinity to please review their footage for anything that might assist our enquiries.
“Finally, I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding during the road closures, which are in place to allow us to fully investigate this incident.”
