DNA found at victim’s home links burglar to crime in Poole

A MAN has been jailed for more than two years after DNA found at a crime scene linked him to a burglary.

Sometime between February 17 and February 24, 37-year-old Daniel Simon Bolton from Bournemouth broke into a house in Chester Road in Poole while the victims were away.

Bolton stole several items from the house, including a key to a car that was parked outside.

Officers arrested Bolton a week later where he was found in possession of the car key and the stolen car was found nearby.

A forensic examination of the scene was carried out and Bolton’s DNA was located on a screwdriver that was found in the home.

The theft followed an incident earlier in the month, where Bolton walked into the Tesco store in Yarrow Road on February 15 just before 9pm and handed a mobile phone to a security guard which provided a distraction to enable him to access two private areas and check tills for money.

Both tills proved to be empty, so Bolton then used a tool to open a till on the shop floor and stole £380 in cash from within.

Bolton pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary and was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on October 3 to two years and four months in prison.

PC Ted Carlton, of the neighbourhood crime team, said: “We are relentless in our efforts to identify burglars such as Bolton and ensure they are brought before the courts.

“Our investigation was able to identify Bolton as the offender and make sure he faced justice for his actions.

“Burglaries have a significant impact on residents and businesses and we are determined in our efforts to pursue offenders.”
