Popular storytelling tours at Corfe Castle made available to those who are deaf or have hearing impairments

POPULAR Dorset tourist attraction Corfe Castle is accommodating those with hearing impairments throughout the summer, adding members to the National Trust team in the form of British Sign Language interpreters.

These interpreters will be working alongside the Castle’s popular 45-minute Keeper of the Castle tours on specific dates in August including the fourth, tenth and seventeenth at 11am, 12:30pm, 2pm and 3:30pm.

This movement of a more inclusive experience started last month with the opening of a new Changing Places Toilet. Along with the addition of a smart phone, downloadable audio tour and information throughout the castle in British Sign Language via a QR code.

The Visitor Experience Officer, Sophie Trenchard said that she is “delighted” to make these storytelling tours accessible, describing the tours as “wildly fun” and expressing excitement towards these tours “being enjoyed by a new audience”.

All summer time activities including the outdoor cinema and theatre will not be affected by these changes, nor will the content of Norman history within the tours.
