The Mowlem needs YOUR help to fix leaking roof

AN iconic Swanage landmark that is in desperate need of desperate support has launched a fundraiser to fix its leaking roof.

The Mowlem theatre on Shore Road, described as a beacon for the arts, has stood strong for almost 60 years but it is faced with a big problem – its leaking roof.

The venue has hosted many community groups over the years and has created countless memories for many.

But the board of trustees that manage the theatre said its “stubbornly flat relic from another era” has been leaking for a while – and it’s getting worse.

Temporary fixes have only gone so far, and now the team is seeking to raise £10,000 to add a permanent weather-proof layer to the existing roof, ensuring the building remains watertight for years to come.

They welcome donations from £1 upwards, and every penny raised will help to keep the space open and the venue dry.

A variety of rewards are on offer to incentivise donations – including the chance to have a plaque with donor’s name placed on one of the auditorium seats, as well as Mowlem branded merchandise and experiences, including tote bags, umbrellas and backstage tours.

A spokesperson said: “Help us raise the roof and keep the heart of our community dry. Let’s raise the roof – together.”

At the time of writing, £2,512 has been raised. Donations can be done online or in buckets after every show and at the donations panel at the bar.
