South west’s biggest model show at Tank Museum this weekend

THIS weekend will see the return of a ‘model’ event to Dorset.

The South West Model Show runs on Saturday and Sunday, September 23 and 24, at The Tank Museum.

Sponsored by model firm Airfix, organisers promise ‘tonnes of fun for the whole family’.

Alongside the Museum’s collection of some 300 military vehicles, visitors can enjoy displays of all types of models.

They will also be able to get ‘hands on’, having a go at Scalextric racing, building a tank with Model for Heroes, and have the chance to meet Doctor Who villains with the Dalek Charity Squad.

Tom Holmes, events manager at the Museum, said: “The Tank Museum is delighted to showcase model building as a fun, family activity that is a great way to learn about history.

“The Museum is the perfect venue to inspire future projects.”

The event is the biggest model show in the south west, featuring talks on how to start model making for novices, to photogrammetry workshops by Arts University Bournemouth for advanced modellers.

Visitors can also explore The Tank Museum’s 10 interactive exhibitions, including the new ‘Tanks for the Memories’ exhibition, showcasing how tanks have been portrayed as a cultural icon, including through model making and toys.

Children can enjoy the new tank-themed outdoor play area, while families can relax with a coffee next to the soft play area and catch a bite to eat in the on-site restaurant.
