Riveting review of Bournemouth Pavilion’s panto Cinderella

THIS year’s pantomime production of Cinderella at the Bournemouth Pavilion delivered exactly what you’d had hoped for from a festive family night out – big laughs, dazzling costumes, catchy musical numbers and enough audience participation to keep everyone happy from toddles to grandparents entertained.

From the moment the Fairy Godmother (Melanie Walters from Gavin and Stacey) appeared onto the stage in a burst of glitter, the show established its warm, high-energy tone.

The loveable Buttons played by Noel Brodie quickly gets the audience on his side, participating in both storyline and songs.

He takes control of the show with ad libbing lines that makes the audience roar with laughter with his hilarious general stage presence.

Cinderella (Olivia Birchenough) herself was instantly likeable, sweet and caring with a strong voice that lifted every musical moment.

Her chemistry with Prince Charming (Jack Wilcox) royal and regal in statue felt genuine. Their duets throughout the show were a highlight.

David Zachary played an excellent role as Dandini.

Of course, the real stars, as in any good panto, were the Ugly Stepsisters (Melody Hard-up performed by Jamie Morris and Harmony Hard-up performed by Tarot Joseph).

Outrageously costumed and brilliantly over-the-top, they stole nearly every scene with sharp improvisation and quick-fire jokes. Their banter with the audience was fearless and had the crowd roaring.

All the dancers gave an outstanding medley of musical numbers throughout the show.

From amazing scenery and flamboyant costumes, it’s definitely a panto not to be missed, so grab your tickets for a truly wonderful experience.

The show runs until January 4, 2026.
