AN ‘iconic’ model railway will be on show in Poole this month.

The Poole Model Railway Exhibition, which runs on October 20 at Poole Grammar School, in Gravel Hill, will feature the return of the Bournemouth West layout.

“It is with great pleasure that Poole & District Model Railway Society will host Bournemouth West on the layout’s first showing following its return to the exhibition circuit,” a spokesperson said.

“This iconic layout, a fully operational 33-feet long scale model of the long-defunct terminus of the famous Pines Express and Bournemouth Belle trains, has featured in the model railway press over the years.

“Following acquisition by new owners the layout has undergone refurbishment and scenic enhancements and is ready to return to public display.”

Meanwhile, the exhibition will feature 15 other model railway layouts of all sizes, eras and gauges, some of which have featured in the model railway press and at major national and regional shows.

There will also be demonstrations of modelling techniques and trade stands selling new and second-hand trains, accessories and tools.

The exhibition runs between 10am and 4.30pm on October 20, and admission costs £8 for adults, £5 for children between 12 and 16, with under 12s free.
