Unauthorised encampment evicted from Dorchester field

POLICE were quick to issue an eviction notice to an unauthorised encampment that was spotted setting up in fields in Dorchester.

Officers attended the Stinsford Hill area of the town at 3.46pm last Thursday (July 31) following reports.

The force then attended the site during the evening and said they proactively engaged with those present.

The group was then issued with an eviction notice under section 61 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994.

The camp then reportedly moved from the area by 12pm last Friday (August 1).

Neighbourhood Chief Inspector Ged Want, of West Dorset Police, said: “We would like to reassure the community that swift and robust action was taken to clear the site. I would like to thank everyone for their patience while this took place.

“We will always look to take proportionate action where necessary when we receive reports of an unauthorised encampment.”
