SWANAGE Coastguard was called out to rescue a climber that had gotten stuck near Anvil Point at the weekend.
This comes after another climber was rescued after falling down a cliff near the Anvil Point Lighthouse on July 12.
The coastguard team was quick to arrive at the scene on Friday (July 18) after an “exhausted” man had difficulties climbing the rock face some 500 metres west of the lighthouse.
The team located the climber’s partner, who believed the stuck climber had managed to return to the base of the cliffs.

A lifeboat crew was then tasked with recovering him before taking him back to the lifeboat house as darkness fell.

A coastguard spokesperson said: “Coastguards monitored the lifeboats and were prepared to go over the cliff to recover the climber had the lifeboats not been able to get ashore.
“With a successful transfer, both boats returned to the boathouse with the climber, whilst coastguards assisted the climber’s friend to recover equipment before reuniting the pair.
“With little 999 mobile phone coverage in the area, the emergency phone at Anvil Point yet again proved its value of being at the lighthouse for these incidents.”
