A GROUP of people walked around Weymouth provoking fights and assaulting bystanders, police said, with two women injured.

Detectives are now appealing for witnesses after an incident at around 3.10am on Sunday (December 3), where people reported a group of people were on the march around the town.

A Dorset Police spokesperson said the driver of a Citroen was threatened in Park Street car park by individuals “armed with knives”.

“Two women sustained minor injuries during the incident,” they added.

A 20-year-old Weymouth man has been arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of a bladed article with intent to cause fear of violence.

Detective Constable Nick Hunter, of County CID, said: “This was an unprovoked incident that involved an unknown number of people and I would like to reassure the public that a full and thorough investigation is underway.

“As part of my enquiries, I would like to identify anyone who was assaulted, threatened or witnessed the reported events in the early hours of the morning.

“I am particularly keen to identify the driver of the Citroen, who was reportedly threatened by the group, an elderly man who was in the area and was approached, and a Good Samaritan who tried to intervene.”
