A WAREHAM primary school is closed today after a boiler broke down.
Pupils at Sandford St Martin’s primary, in Sandford Road, has shut amid freezing temperatures.
It is currently the only school listed as closed by Dorset Council.
Elsewhere, Hemington Primary School in Somerset is opening late, at 11am, due to frozen conditions.
“All visitors are advised to drive in to Hemington coming from the Faulkland direction, as this hill is less perilous than entering from the Frome Road,” a spokesperson said.
Temperatures across Dorset are set to remain below freezing for much of today, according to the Met Office, reaching a maximum of around 2C this afternoon.
However, a forecaster warned of a drop this evening.
“Freezing fog redeveloping in places, especially in eastern areas,” they said.
“Skies clouding over in the west.”
Temperatures will drop to around -4C, with a ‘sharp frost and a risk of ice’, they added.
Tuesday will see cloudy skies and an early freezing fog – and the possibility of some sleet and snow.
“Possible light rain, sleet and snow in the far south later,” the forecaster warned.
“Feeling very cold with brisk easterly winds.”
